Titanium

Symbol: Ti

Atomic number: 22

Atomic weight: 47.867

Element category: transition metal

Titanium and Titanium alloys can be used in aerospace, military, medical, jewelry, telecommunications and other industries. There are several grades of Titanium. Grade 1 to Grade 4 are of pure Titanium, and the other grades are of alloys. Pure Titanium is used for its high corrosion resistance, and its alloys, for their extremely high strength to weight ratio.

Titanium Bar/Wire

Titanium and its alloys utilized in many challenging applications across Aerospace, Defense, Medical, Industrial, and Oil and Gas industries. Selected for unique combination of high strength, light weight, corrosion resistance, biocompatibility, and higher temperature performance.

Ti-6Al-4V, Titanium Grade 5 alloy (UNSR56400) is the most widely used titanium grade. It is a two phase α+βtitanium alloy, with aluminum as the alpha stabilizer and vanadium asthe beta stabilizer. This high-strength alloy can be used at cryogenictemperatures to about 800°F (427°C). Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is used inthe annealed condition and in the solution treated and aged condition. Some applications include: Medical, compressor blades, discs, and rings for jetengines; airframe and space capsule components; fasteners; critical forgingsrequiring high strength-to-weight ratios.

This alloy is produced by primary melting using vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearthmelting (PAM). Remelting is achieved by one or two vacuum arc steps.
